Dr. Christopher Heetland Insight

Growing up in North Dakota, Dr. Chris Heetland developed a strong work ethic and a sincere appreciation for family values and community. He completed his undergraduate studies at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1994. It is here where he met his wife, Loree. Calling Chandler home since 1999, they have two children and are extremely proud to now be serving all of Chandler and the surrounding communities through Insight Eyecare & Eyewear.

Dr. Heetland’s professional studies started at Pacific University College of Optometry where he graduated with high honors in 1998. As part of this professional training, he completed externships at both Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Maui, HI and locally at Hu Hu Kam Hospital in Sacaton, AZ.

Pacific University is a well-known leader in the area of behavioral optometry or “functional optometry“ - an expanded area within eye care which allows Dr. Heetland to better understand and diagnose vision information processing problems. This knowledge set is most applicable in the examinations of children, as it directly relates to your child’s ability or inability to fully achieve and learn in the classroom and beyond.

In an effort to attain the highest level of expertise in medical-based eye care, Dr. Heetland then went on to complete a residency program through Southern California College of Optometry. This specialized training in the co-management of eye disease and refractive surgery is rare in optometry, and it allowed Dr. Heetland the experience of working alongside some of the best eye surgeons in the industry via the renowned Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in Phoenix, AZ.

Dr. Heetland has been exceeding the expectations of his patients now for over 11 years. Most recently, before co-founding Insight Eyecare & Eyewear in 2008, he practiced at Prime Eye Care in Phoenix for nine years. He currently maintains a contract position at this center where he continues to enjoy the challenges of treating patients with diabetes related eye disease, macular degeneration, cataracts, LASIK surgery co-management, and glaucoma. In 2007 Dr. Heetland served on Alcon’s Optometric Glaucoma Advisory Board, one of the largest glaucoma medication manufacturers in the United States.

Looking beyond Dr. Heetland’s clinical expertise, however, is where patients truly perceive what makes him such a great doctor. Dr. Heetland treats each and every patient with genuine concern and care, just as he would his own family. Patients frequently compliment him on how thorough and informative his eye exams are.
